Common Questions

M42 FAQ

When should I use M42 instead of M51?

M42 is the right choice for most general metal cutting in fabrication workshops. If you're cutting stainless steel, high-alloy tool steel, or experiencing short blade life with M42, consider upgrading to M51.

Can M42 cut stainless steel?

M42 can cut stainless steel in some applications, but M51 is generally the preferred grade for stainless due to its higher alloy content and heat resistance. We recommend confirming your application before ordering.

What TPI should I use for cutting RHS and SHS?

For RHS and SHS, a variable pitch blade such as 4/6 or 6/10 TPI is typically recommended to reduce harmonic vibration and improve blade life. Send us your section size and we can advise.

Do you supply M42 in custom welded lengths?

Yes. All M42 bandsaw blades are available in custom welded lengths. Send us your blade length, width, thickness and TPI and we'll produce the blade to your specification.
